Dear students,
The Civil Engineering Department was established in 2002 within the Faculty of Engineering and began accepting students in the 2011-2012 academic year. Our academic staff is organized under six main divisions: Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics, Transportation, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, and Construction Materials.
Since the 2012-2013 academic year, the Department has also offered graduate education concurrently with undergraduate programs.v
At Afyon Kocatepe University’s Faculty of Engineering, our department emphasizes learning by doing as one of the most effective parts of the education process, supported by experienced faculty and well-equipped laboratories.
As of February 2025, our department has 15 faculty members (including 7 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, and 6 Doctor Faculty Members) and 4 Research Assistants. In addition to academic staff, we have one Lecturer (PhD), one Engineer, and 2 technicians serving the department.
Civil engineers educated here may work in public institutions such as the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), Highways (KGM), State Railways (TCDD), Ministry of Public Works and Settlement, Iller Bank, and local municipalities. They may also serve in private contracting and design firms or continue academic careers through graduate education.
Our primary goal is to train civil engineers who can participate in the planning, design, construction, and management of structures, as well as design, implement, evaluate, and develop systems — serving effectively in national and global institutions and organizations.
If you would like to be part of the Civil Engineering Department and plan your career with us, we would be delighted to welcome you.
Respectfully,
Prof. Dr. Gökhan GÖRHAN
Head of the Department of Civil Engineering
